Dear Friends,
As we start this journey, together, let me share with you something about me. Starting Nov. 23, 2020, I was appointed by Bishop Paul J. Bradley, as your pastor. I am humbled by his confidence and trust. And I want to respond to it, doing my best in being the shepherd he wants me to be for this parish collaborative.
Fr. Ken Schmidt left for me ‘big shoes’ to walk in, but I felt since the first moment I arrived here, that I am not alone, and like you, I am filled with hope. Not in vane I start this ministry, as the Advent Journey opens right in front of us. So, this is a Time of Hope, in every way in our lives.
Please join me in thanking Fr. Ken for his service to us in the months he was here. His ministry has always been a great lesson on how to be a good shepherd. I admire him so much and I am grateful to have him as a mentor, and friend. God bless your days with His love and grace, dear Fr. Ken. You know the way, please come back to visit us anytime.
Ok. Now about me. I am from Colombia, and I was ordained a priest of this Diocese of Kalamazoo, seven years ago. I am learning about being a priest and pastor in the U.S. under the guidance of fine priests like Bishop Bradley, Fr. Ken and many more, always serving God’s people with love and dedication.
I started the seminary in Colombia, and to pursue my artistic skills, I left the seminary for some years, until I was accepted to be part of the diocese ten years ago. In the meantime, I graduated in Arts, with my specialty in painting, murals for the most part. I am interested in arts, and as It will be possible, I’ll share with you some of it, or do something with your help. I finished my seminary time at Saint Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in West Palm Beach, FL.
My last assignment was Saint Joseph Parish in Kalamazoo, and before that I was in the Collaborative of Holy Angels (Sturgis) and Saint Joseph (White Pigeon). Now, I am glad to be here with you, to walk with you the days and years ahead, until my next assignment.
Let us start this journey, as Advent, precisely invites us to “wait in joyful hope” and to “prepare the Ways of the Lord”. Our world, our country, our church needs that we, day after day, live like that, People of Hope, filled with the Joy of the Good News, that He, our Incarnate Lord, brings us.
By the way, I like you, am a work in progress, so, please help me with your prayers, use patience with me and my English skills (I promise to keep learning).
Wishing all of you a blessed and Holy Advent season, I entrust you to the intercession of our patron saints,
Fr. Evelio
